Description of Study:

This is a study that investigate whether changing walking speed can help with balance. Participants will be asked to walk at different speeds on a self-paced treadmill in a virtual reality setup. Additionally, a set of clinical tests will be performed to assess gait, balance, and body sensory system.

Will participants be compensated for participation?
Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria:

Inclusion:
– age between 18 – 39 years old.
– able to walk unassisted for 9 minutes.
Exclusion:
– Had any head, neck, or face injury in the six months prior to the study (e.g., concussion, eye injury).
– Have a history of balance or eye dysfunction.
– Currently taking any medications affecting balance (e.g. cardiovascular medications designed to affect the blood pressure or heart rate, benzodiazepines, narcotic pain medications, especially opioids, or medication specifically to prevent dizziness).
– Had any injuries to lower extremities affecting balance in the past six months.
– Pregnant.
– Have any neurological disorders (e.g., seizure disorders, closed head injuries with loss of consciousness greater than 15 minutes, brain tumor, history of stroke).
– Have conditions affecting the heart or lung.
– Have other comorbidities that might affect your ability to safely walk without assistance for at least 9 minutes.
– Allergic to medical-grade adhesives.
