Human Research Coordination

The Vascular Physiology Lab at UD is recruiting participants for a study investigating what happens to the heart and blood vessels after exercise and antihistamine usage. Participation requires three visits to the laboratory. The screening/exercise testing visit lasts 1.5 hours. At the remaining two visits, participants will take either placebo or antihistamine pills at the beginning of the visit. They will then have their heart and blood vessels scanned with an ultrasound before and after one hour of moderate intensity exercise on a stationary bike. These visits last approximately 4.5 hours. Participants receive $100 for completion of the study.

Inclusion criteria:
-18-45 years
-normotensive (blood pressure <140/90mmHg)
-non pregnant
-body mass index between 18.5-35kg/m2

Exclusion criteria:
-musculoskeletal injury that would prevent you from riding a stationary bike
-smoking/nicotine use
-history of cardiovascular or metabolic disease
-cancer
-kidney disease or reduced kidney function (estimated glomerular filtration rate <90)
-hormone replacement therapy
-medications that affect the cardiovascular system
-daily antihistamine or heart burn medication usage (if you take these daily and decide to participate, you will be asked to refrain from taking 3 days prior to each visit)
